The Child Life Program

In addition to its many other accomplishments, the Children’s Medical Fund of New York has pioneered a program called the Child Life Program. This program helps children and their families to better cope with the experience of staying in a hospital. They have highly trained Child Life Specialists who help to minimize the stress that the children feel while they are ill or injured.

The Children’s Medical Fund, with President Corey Ribotsky and Chairman David Blumenfeld, initiated this program to enhance the offerings at Schneider Children’s Hospital so that children would be more comfortable. Such offerings include the Clown Care Unit, Pet Therapy, the Heather on Earth Music Therapy program and more.

As part of this unique program, every floor at the hospital has a designated room where children can enjoy themselves, and where not procedures or check-ups are conducted. Their annual commitment to the Child Life Program is approximately $400,000 and certainly requires a great deal of fundraising efforts.
