The Onyx and Breezy Foundation has been quite busy recently and this trend is set to stick for a while. Over the last few months, events have included the following: Nyack Springfest from 10am to 5pm on April 17, in Nyack; the Hoboken Arts and Music Festival as well as the Westfield Spring Fling, both on May 1. Three weeks later saw the Charter Day Celebration of Bernards Township in Basking Ridge, NJ, on May 21.
Upcoming at the Onyx and Breezy Foundation is the Denville Street Festival on June 5 as well as the Somerville Spring Spectacular on the same day. So there is a lot going on and this important organization is doing a lot to raise much-needed funds so that it can continue in its important work. Corey Ribotsky is a supporter of this foundation that was set up to assist animals in distress.

If you’re interested in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, like Corey Ribotsky and so many others, one way to do so is with your bow tie. That’s right. Bow Tie Cause, launched one year ago by Dhani Jones, has partnered with 24 causes and sold over 5000 bow ties to raise more than $200,000.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Bow Tie that is for sale through their website was personally designed by Dhani Jones and his friend Kunta Littlejohn. Kunta’s battle with cancer led Dhani to create the bow tie. Dhani’s symbolism behind the design is quite personal. When Kunta was diagnosed, he thought that he was going to die. This is symbolized with the black base on the Bow Tie.
The silver lining on the Bow Tie shows the optimism they felt as Kunta began to improve. The red blood droplets on the tie are the logo for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Dhani Jones actually has quite an interesting background. Graduating from the University of Michigan with a custom-made major called Self-Representation, he has been a linebacker in the NFL and he owns a creative agency in NYC called VMG-Creative.

A recent lawsuit against the N.I.R. Group was dismissed in mid-April. The judge in the appellate division of New York State Supreme Court threw out the lawsuit. The case which was first filed in March of 2009 by the Palmetto Partners, who were investors in the N.I.R. Group, where Corey Ribotsky is a head portfolio manager, filed that the hedge fund reneged on an agreement that allowed investors to withdraw funds.
The case was dismissed because the Palmetto Partners sued before the deadline for getting their money back. While they filed their lawsuit on March 26, 2009, the deadline under which they could get their money back was March 31, 2009.
Another inaccurate claim made by the Palmetto Partners was that a letter sent by the N.I.R. Group saying that funds were suspended for the “foreseeable future” showed that they were reneging on an earlier contract. Instead, the court found that this was not true. It said that the letter only “notified investors that, in light of market conditions and liquidity concerns, investor withdrawals were not being suspended for the foreseeable future.”

The newspapers owned by Richner Communications have decided to pool their resources to help others. A committee, called REACT which stands for Richner Employees Assisting Communities Together, has been working to select one organization that can benefit from their talents and company resources.
They selected Sunrise Day Camp as their choice for 2011. As committee Chairwoman Christine Remsen, Richner’s marketing director, explained, “The selection process was a wonderful experience, bringing together employees from various departments to work for a common goal.”
Now, REACT plans to spend the year offering media coverage to Sunrise Day Camp through stories, interviews, photos and coverage of events. Certainly, the camp is delighted. They rely on donations from people and organizations like Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group, and they can always use extra media attention.
As the camp president and CEO, Arnie Preminger, said, “Sunrise Day Camp can only exist through the generosity of individuals and companies like Richner Communications. The camp is offered totally free to children who are going through chronic illnesses, and people don’t realize how much of an impact this can have on the family financially. By allowing us to tell our story, it will bring more donations to the table. To us this is a godsend.”

So far, two months before the event, The Sunrise Day Camp Sixth Annual Walk to Help the Sun Rise has raised $83,995. This event is scheduled for June 5, 2011 to help children with cancer and their siblings. Certainly, every dollar raised by sponsors and donors like Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group, allows more children with cancer to enjoy the Sunrise Day Camp experience.
As the first and only day camp in the country designed for children with cancer, Sunrise welcomes children from the age of 3.5 to 16 to get away from their hospital stays and their feeling of confinement and to enjoy a camp experience. The camp is offered free of charge to participating children and is funded by its generous donors and sponsors, and by events like the Sixth Annual Walk to Help the Sun Rise.
The Annual Walk includes three courses with 1 mile, 2 mile and 5 kilometer choices. Walkers will enjoy being part of the fun, and those who don’t enjoy walking can sponsor walkers or making a donation.
The walk, held at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, will end with a fun filled Finish Line Celebration including food, games, crafts, pony rides and more.

Corey Ribotsky and CMF Leadership
The NIR Group, headquartered in Roslyn, Long Island with Corey Ribotsky as the Managing Member, is involved in a large number of philanthropic endeavors located in the Long Island and New York areas.
One of those beneficiaries of the support of the NIR Group is the Children’s Medical Fund of New York. This fund is a charitable organization which was created to support the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center (Schneider Children’s Hospital) which is located in New Hyde Park in New York. The CMF helps to ensure that Long Island’s children as well as children from the greater New York metropolitan area have access to the best pediatric care which is available. This is achieved by raising funds to provide infrastructure and equipment as well as sponsoring the needed programs which make the Children’s Medical Center the most modern and successful children’s hospital that is possible.

The NIR Group – headed by Corey Ribotsky – is based on four different strategic investments: commodities, structured finance, direct investments and real estate. When it comes to the latter, the NIR Group fund prides itself on being a “hard money lender.” The main product of the company in this area is mortgage loans with different levels and risk types than mortgage loans. Consequently, a higher yield is earned, based on shorter term and while this in general would indicate a higher cost to the borrower, demand for such loans is based on certain factors like tighter loan underwriting standards used by traditional mortgage lenders; a borrower’s decision to reduce equity dilution that comes from bringing in an equity investor for necessary funds and borrower timing issues that call for an expedited loan closing without the delays typically encountered in a conventional financing.

The Children’s Medical Fund of NY, where Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group is the President, was recently very appreciative of Eric Chipman. As the son of CMF Trustee Richard Chipman, Eric decided to celebrate his bar mitzvah with a donation to the Children’s Medical Fund of NY. He donated a portion of his bar mitzvah gifts to this worthy cause, and followed in his parents’ example by doing so.
As the Children’s Medical Fund of NY explained, “This is a perfect example of children helping children.”
Every donation that the Children’s Medical Fund with hard working people like Corey Ribotsky receives helps them to help children. The trustees and the staff of CMF gave a hearty thank you to Eric for his lovely donation.
They presented Eric with a CMF achievement award for his contribution.

Corey Ribotsky is a supporter of the Onyx and Breezy Foundation which seeks to help animals in distress and raise money to benefit their welfare, especially when there is a financial difficulty among the owners. The foundation often hosts fundraising events and in March is due to hold its second annual island gala in Sanibel Island, Florida. Any time that a fun event can make money for such a foundation as Onyx and Breezy, it is good news for all those involved since it gets people more directly involved in the cause of the organization.

Recent news at the NIR Group has shown how the company is today “one of the most active investment fund managers in this financing sector.” What does this mean in practice?
When talking about investment management, one is referring to securities’ management (such as bonds and shares) as well as assets (like property) as a way of reaching the goals of their investors. Investors in this case, with the NIR Group, are often high net worth individuals, but could also refer to corporations and companies.
When providing a client with investment management opportunities and services, one is continuously monitoring the client’s investments as well as selecting stocks and assets, under a financial services umbrella.
So when choosing a company to manage investments, how it works in all these different areas should be considered in their totality.
