Erin Kozaki was recently appointed as donor development at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)’s regional office in Santa Barbara. Businessman Corey Ribotsky has been a volunteer at the LLS for many years, helping it with its vital work for cancer sufferers, survivors and their families.

Kozaki has come a long way since her initial encounters with the LLS. While she has held other executive positions with the organization, she first came in touch with the Society when she joined Team in Training back in 2008, as a cancer patient, raising $4,000. Team in Training is the largest fundraising program of the LLS.

Today, thankfully, Kozaki is in remission of diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. As the new director of donor development, Kozaki will work with LLS’s Santa Barbara regional office in an attempt to establish a stronger LLS presence in the community and help the LLS expand its activities in neighboring cities.

If you’re interested in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, like Corey Ribotsky and so many others, one way to do so is with your bow tie. That’s right. Bow Tie Cause, launched one year ago by Dhani Jones, has partnered with 24 causes and sold over 5000 bow ties to raise more than $200,000.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Bow Tie that is for sale through their website was personally designed by Dhani Jones and his friend Kunta Littlejohn. Kunta’s battle with cancer led Dhani to create the bow tie. Dhani’s symbolism behind the design is quite personal. When Kunta was diagnosed, he thought that he was going to die. This is symbolized with the black base on the Bow Tie.

The silver lining on the Bow Tie shows the optimism they felt as Kunta began to improve. The red blood droplets on the tie are the logo for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Dhani Jones actually has quite an interesting background. Graduating from the University of Michigan with a custom-made major called Self-Representation, he has been a linebacker in the NFL and he owns a creative agency in NYC called VMG-Creative.

On September 27th, the famous Mel Brooks launched an event in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), a cancer research and patient support organization which is supported by companies such as the NIR Group with Corey Ribotsky. Brooks worked alongside Creative Director Alan Yentob at the event.

The evening was hosted by literary agent Ed Victor, a leukemia survivor who explained that he feels he owes his life to modern research of the disease. The program was held at the Geffen Playhouse, and included an interview with Yentob, questions from the audience and film clips from Brooks’ works such as Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and the television series Get Smart. Tickets for the event ranged from $100 to $250 for a personal champagne and dessert with Mel Brooks. All proceeds from the event went to support LLS.

Among the several non-profit foundations supported with funds from the NIR Group and Corey Ribotsky is the Onyx and Breezy Foundation. This foundation, whose mandate is to help animals in whatever ways are urgent, including providing medical care, medical equipment and money for research, makes sure that 100% of donations it receives goes towards helping animals. Not a penny is spent on administrative costs, so donors can feel happy that all their hard earned contributions go directly to aiding the animals.

Group, headquartered in Roslyn, NY, discussed the increased popularity of private investments in public entities, otherwise known as PIPEs. Despite the generally sluggish economy PIPE investing is seen to be rising. Ribotsky urges due diligence as essential when contemplating deals of this genre.

The article focuses on PIPEs becoming more mainstream as investment options while traditional financing becomes more difficult to obtain as the market for secondary offerings slows.

The article, entitled “Terms of Endearment” cautions that the terms of these deals must be meticulously scrutinized. Ribotsky commented:

“The company has to know who they’re getting into bed with. You want someone who’s going to be a financial partner as opposed to someone who’s just looking for a trading play.”
